Only Three months into the second year of my contract and I have already been asked to indicate whether or not I am intending to stay. This is a great question. Many international schools like the decision to be made by the start of December in time for the job fairs and other schools ask for a decision at the very beginning of the school year. It is a risk to resign when you haven't got a job lined up. It's scary.
I sat down with my husband and wrote a pros and cons list for staying or going. Unfortunately the lists came out exactly the same in length. Not so helpful. Initially Adam had very much wanted to leave but has since changed his mind and wouldn't mind either way. Maybe my dream job will just fall into my lap before I have to make a decision and then it is all sorted for me. If only it were that simple.
One thing that really makes you want to stay is the fact that you've developed better relationships after a year, new people come in and you often have the curriculum just how you want it. I'm having a great time being Head of Grade this year, I know my way around, the curriculum suits my teaching style more and I like our friendship group.
We've discovered a couple of people among us who also play Ukulele and this has evolved into regular Ukulele sessions that include a lot of playing, sharing music and stories along with a few drinks and nibbles.
Will we stay or will we go? I have no clue, but I guess I need to have decided in a month's time.
